Thermage Non-Surgical Face Lift and Body Thermage in Orlando
Roger E. Bassin, MD Orlando, FL
Thermage uses radiofrequency energy to tighten loose or sagging facial skin, or loose body skin due to weight loss or age. The Thermage procedure typically lasts for 30 to 90 minutes depending on how much area is being treated.
The radiofrequency energy is directed just below the surface of the skin, stimulating the the collagen into regeneration. There is no surgery, injections, or incision required. As the procedure is performed, a cooling spray is used to keep you comfortable and protect the skin. A mild sedative may be used to reduce discomfort.
Over the next 6 months, your skin will slowly begin to produce more collagen, filling in the lines and grooves in your skin and producing a younger, more vibrant appearance. Many patients who have undergone Thermage have been thrilled with their new younger look. Results can begin to appear in as little as 3 weeks.
If you are suffering from loose body skin due to weight loss, having children, or aging, your options for reversing these unattractive areas are pretty limited. Surgical answers to these issues are liposuction and body contouring, depending on the severity of each individual case.
What if you're not ready for full blown surgery and don't have the time to recover or the funds to finance that kind of work?
Body Thermage has been very successful as an alternative to surgery for tightening aging skin with no incisions, no scars, and no downtime in the vast majority of cases.
For years, Thermage has been used for non-surgical brow lifts and the non-surgical tightening of facial wrinkles on the forehead, around the eye, the mid and lower face, and the neck. New applications of Thermage to the body led to FDA approval for such use, allowing for the tightening of loose body skin, arms, legs, abdomen and buttocks. The procedure itself is administered in office, lasting from minutes to just over an hour depending on the area treated. About an hour before the procedure, a topical numbing agent is applied some oral medication is administered to assist with anxiety and make the procedure more comfortable.
The radio frequency (RF) energy uniformly heats the dermis while cooling and protecting the epidermis. The top layers of your skin are protected with a cooling spray while radio frequency energy heats the collagen in the lower layers.
This heating action causes deep structures of your skin to tighten immediately. Over time, new collagen grows to further tighten your skin and produce a more youthful appearance. Recently published studies, conducted by Thermage, show that measurable tightening improvements appear gradually over 2 to 6 months after a single treatment session. However, many patients report seeing an earlier response.
Who is the optimal candidate for this procedure?
An ideal candidate for Thermage a woman or man with loose, bagging skin, who wishes to tighten up those areas. These people may have lost a lot of weight, with resulting sagging skin, and they may wish to avoid surgery.
Body by Thermage offers an excellent non-surgical technique to tighten loose, sagging skin in areas of the neck, abdomen, love handles, back skin, thighs, and upper arms. Results are good across a wide range of ages, and the Thermage is color blind - meaning that it is wholly suitable for all skin types.
Body by Thermage has been used successfuly as a non invasive tummy tuck for women who have excess skin following pregrancy or weight loss and who do not want to undergo abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck surgery.
